Now, we are getting the house back in order, doing laundry, putting Christmas decorations away, more laundry, getting rooms reorganized, and more laundry. :) There was no school today because of the frigid temperatures. There is already a 2 hour delay for the kids tomorrow. Not for me. I will be at work bright (well not so much bright) but early.
As the kids and I were putting away decorations, Aiden reminded me that I never wrote out our "Favorites List" on here. I had mentioned this to the kids on the way to Indiana so that they could be thinking of the past year and some of their favorite things from the year. So here is our favorite lists from 2013:
We will start with little Lucy: (age 3) 1. Favorite Food: pasta, ice cream, and popcorn (especially with Grandpa Penner) 2. Favorite book: Word books (books with a picture and the word - I am smiling at this because it helps her so much with her speech). 3. Favorite activity: doing puzzles 4. Things learned this year: being in a classroom and more and more understandable words. 5. Lesson learned: being the center of attention is where it's at!!!!! Ha!
Isabelle: (age 5) 1. Favorite food: mac n' cheese, pizza 2. Favorite movie: Despicable Me 2 3. Favorite activity: Going to PreK 4. Things learned this year: riding a bus to school, writing her name, letters, and that losing 2 teeth really does not hurt
Aiden: (Age 9) 1.Favorite movie: The Hobbit - Part 2, 2. Favorite book: The Hobbit :) 3. Favorite food: Ice cream cake, donuts 4. Lesson learned: That God can use anyone for His rescue plan (you will have to ask him what he means by this. He told me he liked how God came to the shepherds to help spread the news of God's rescue plan.) 5. Highlight of the year: going to Valley Fair
Ian: (age 10) 1. Favorite movie: The Hobbit - Part 1 and 2, 2. Favorite book: Ashtown Burials series 3. Favorite food: Pickle roll ups and Mac n' cheese (yes, I make it from the box. GASP!) 4. Lesson learned: "to be careful of what we watch and read".
Me: (age 36) 1. Favorite movie: Hunger Games: Catching Fire 2. Favorite Book: I can't pick just one so here are 3: Gospel by J.D. Greear, Anything by Jennie Allen, and Nice Girls Don't Change the World by Lynne Hybels 3. Favorite food: A big juicy cheeseburger with all the fixins from Culvers, especially after running a half marathon. :) Specific enough for you? Ha! oh! and Pumpkin Crunch 4. Highlights of the year: Going to a women's conference with a dear friend and meeting Jen Hatmaker, also watching Ian perform in the Christmas program at church. 5. Lessons learned (or am constantly learning): God created each of us uniquely. We all have different personalities, different strengths, different weaknesses. We are different and need to give one another grace, and I need to accept God's grace when I think I have failed or when I compare my life to someone else, thinking they have it better than me.
Jason: (age 38) 1. Favorite movie: Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Father of Lights 2. Favorite Books: The Magician's Nephew and The Last Battle both by C.S. Lewis 3. Favorite Food: Coffee and Donuts 4. Highlights of the year: corn harvest, skiing with the boys, seeing the Dutters and Teagardens this summer 5. Lesson learned this year: Starting to see clearly and actually believe that I have become about as good a person as I can and it isn’t even close to good enough. I’m broken and sinful through and through and Jesus is my only hope.
That's us. The Penners. Closing out another year! Happy 2014! We look forward to what God has planned for the coming year.
Soli Deo Gloria!
